Police Rescue Kidnapped Ilejemeje Vice Chairman, Dismiss Rumoured Attack on Ifaki-Ekiti
The Nigeria Police Force has rescued the Vice Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area, Mrs. Ogunleye Grace, who was allegedly kidnapped by unidentified hoodlums on May 20, 2026.
The Command said the victim was rescued unhurt through a joint operation involving the police, military, other security agencies and local security personnel, who mounted sustained pressure on the abductors during the rescue mission.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, the Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, CP Falade Adegoroye Micheal, ordered a thorough investigation into the incident to unravel the circumstances surrounding the abduction and apprehend those responsible.
The police also reassured residents of the state of its commitment to the protection of lives and property, urging members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible information.
Meanwhile, the Command dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that armed bandits attacked Ifaki-Ekiti and surrounding communities, describing the claims as false, fabricated and misleading.
According to the statement, the rumoured attack allegedly said to have occurred on May 17, 2026, was the handiwork of “mischief-makers and enemies of peace” attempting to create panic and unnecessary apprehension in the state.
The police explained that upon noticing the reports online, CP Falade Adegoroye Micheal immediately deployed tactical and intelligence operatives to Ifaki-Ekiti and adjoining communities to verify the claims and respond decisively if any threat existed.
Findings from the security operation, according to the Command, confirmed that no attack took place in Ifaki-Ekiti, schools or any other community in Ekiti State. The police therefore urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding and continue with their lawful activities, assuring that proactive security measures had been put in place across the state to guarantee public safety.
