Ekiti Secretariat Road Collapsing Amid Government Activities

The deplorable condition of the access road within the Ekiti State Secretariat, Ado-Ekiti, has continued to raise concern among civil servants, visitors, and residents, as worsening erosion and massive potholes now threaten smooth movement within the seat of government administration.

Findings revealed that a major section of the road has been badly damaged, with one side already washed off, leaving motorists and pedestrians to navigate the narrow and failing pathway with extreme caution.

The affected road serves as a major link to several strategic ministries and government agencies, including the Ministries of Health, Education, Information, Environment, Youth Development, as well as the New Map and Health Data Bank buildings.

A visit to the Secretariat showed extensive deterioration along the route, with deep potholes, eroded shoulders, exposed gravel, and failed asphalt surfaces making transportation increasingly difficult and hazardous.

Some portions of the road have caved in completely, while muddy craters and uneven surfaces now pose serious danger to vehicles accessing the government complex, especially during rainfall when the potholes become flooded and nearly impossible to detect.

Civil servants who spoke with journalists decried what they described as the continued neglect of critical infrastructure within the heart of government operations.

One of the workers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the situation as embarrassing and unbecoming of a state administrative headquarters.

“It is unfortunate that the Secretariat, where major government policies and decisions are made, has been left in this terrible condition. Workers and visitors struggle daily to access offices because the road has practically collapsed,” the source said.

Observers noted that the deteriorating condition of the road raises broader concerns about maintenance culture and infrastructure management within public institutions in the state.

Some residents and workers who spoke with reporters urged the Ekiti State Government to urgently rehabilitate the road before further damage occurs, stressing that the Secretariat environment should reflect efficiency, functionality, and responsible governance.

According to them, fixing the road would not only improve movement within the Secretariat but also boost the morale of workers and project a better image of governance in the state.

The development has continued to attract public attention, with many insisting that infrastructural renewal should begin from government facilities that serve as the administrative hub of Ekiti State.
