Ekiti Police dismiss officer over drug-related misconduct

The Ekiti State Police Command has dismissed a police officer, Sergeant Osayingbemi Temitope, over alleged misconduct after he was seen behaving erratically in a viral video circulated on social media.

The Command disclosed that the officer’s dismissal followed the conclusion of medical, psychological and internal disciplinary procedures instituted against him after the incident.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, the incident occurred in Ikole-Ekiti on May 9, 2026, after the officer allegedly consumed illicit drugs.

The statement explained that the officer was immediately subjected to medical examinations and psychological evaluation following the circulation of the video online.

Results from the psychological assessment reportedly showed that the officer was emotionally stable, while the medical test confirmed that he tested positive for Tobacco and Amphetamine.

The Command further stated that the officer admitted during investigation that he had taken illicit substances.

Following the completion of internal disciplinary proceedings, Sergeant Temitope was found culpable of misconduct and subsequently recommended for dismissal, a recommendation that was approved by the authorities.

“The Command hereby confirms his dismissal which shall take immediate effect,” the statement said.

The police command reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force remains a disciplined organisation and would not condone acts of indiscipline, unprofessional conduct or any behaviour capable of tarnishing the image of the Force.

The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, CP Falade Adegoroye Micheal, also charged officers and personnel of the Command to uphold discipline, professionalism, integrity and accountability in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities of protecting lives and property.
