Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Ekiti State have arrested two suspected drug dealers during a raid on a suspected illicit drug market in Ado-Ekiti.

The operation was carried out by officers attached to the New Iyin Division following intelligence reports about illegal drug activities around the Alade Garage area in Basiri, Ado-Ekiti.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ekiti State Police Command, Sunday Abutu, the raid led to the arrest of two suspects identified as Promise Fáṣọlá and Ileri-Oluwa Alao, while several others fled the scene.

Abutu said the operation was in compliance with directives from the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Falade Adegoroye Micheal, who had ordered divisional police officers and tactical units across the state to intensify raids on criminal hideouts.

Items recovered from the suspects during the operation included quantities of suspected illicit drugs such as Colorado, Indian hemp and Loud. Police also recovered a Point-of-Sale (POS) machine, an Android phone and a power bank.

The police spokesperson said the suspects had allegedly confessed to engaging in illicit drug sales and would be thoroughly investigated before being charged to court.

He added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects who escaped during the raid.

The Commissioner of Police urged residents of Ekiti State to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information on criminal activities and hideouts to aid ongoing security operations in the state.
