Ekiti Police Assure Residents of Tightened Security, Deploy Personnel Across State

The Ekiti State Police Command has assured residents of adequate security, saying comprehensive measures have been put in place to prevent criminal activities and safeguard lives and property across the state.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the command said the strategy aligns with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and is being implemented under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Falade Adegoroye Micheal.

The police said it had deployed both human and material resources to strengthen internal security and forestall any influx of criminal elements into the state. As part of the measures, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and heads of tactical units have been directed to intensify daily patrols, conduct visibility policing, and sustain operations such as raids on criminal hideouts, bush combing, stop-and-search, and periodic show-of-force exercises.

According to the command, operatives from specialised units including the Police Mobile Force, Rapid Response Squad and Anti-Kidnapping Squad have been stationed at strategic border locations in collaboration with other security agencies. These include the Nigerian Army, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Amotekun Corps, Agro-Marshals, as well as local vigilantes and hunters.

The statement added that intelligence gathering has been enhanced, with the State Criminal Investigation Department and State Intelligence Department directed to intensify efforts to provide timely and credible information aimed at preventing crimes before they occur.

The command also reiterated its commitment to community policing, urging residents to cooperate with security agencies by sharing useful information. It noted that collaboration with traditional rulers, religious bodies, civil society organisations and other stakeholders would be strengthened to improve security outcomes.

To ensure rapid response to emergencies, patrol vehicles have been strategically positioned across the state, while officers have been instructed to respond promptly to distress calls. Residents were advised to contact the police through emergency lines in times of need.

The police further cautioned against the spread of misinformation, warning that fake news—often amplified by emerging technologies—could undermine public safety. Citizens were urged to verify information before sharing.

The command expressed appreciation to Governor Biodun Oyebanji and the police leadership for their continued support, while calling on officers to maintain professionalism and respect for citizens’ rights. Residents were equally urged to remain law-abiding and support ongoing security efforts.
