The remains of late Madam Lydia Bosede Okebiorun have been laid to rest at her residence on Ilamoye Street in Igede Ekiti, amid glowing tributes to her exemplary life and devotion to God and family.

The burial rites commenced on Friday, March 20, 2026, with a Service of Songs held at the Okebiorun family house, drawing relatives, friends and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate the life of the departed matriarch.

Activities continued on Saturday with a large turnout of mourners at Ilamoye Baptist Church, Igede Ekiti, where the funeral and thanksgiving service took place.

Delivering the sermon, the presiding minister, Rev. Owolabi Ayodele, who took his texts from Revelation 10:6 and Luke 11:32, reflected on the biblical story of the prodigal son who returned to his father after squandering his inheritance.

He urged the congregation to surrender their lives to Christ, reminding them that death is inevitable for all mankind and that only those who die in Christ are assured of eternal rest.

Rev. Ayodele also paid glowing tribute to the late Madam Okebiorun, describing her as a devout Christian and a woman committed to service to humanity.

According to him, the deceased was a supportive wife and a caring mother who placed great value on the education and moral upbringing of her children.

“Madam Lydia was a supportive wife who worked tirelessly to give her children quality education and sound home training. I encourage everyone to emulate the good life she lived,” he said.

“It is evident that Mama Lydia lived a life worthy of emulation, and we should be grateful that she lived to a ripe old age before the Lord called her to glory,” the cleric added.

In his tribute, her son, Chief Sola Okebiorun, described his late mother as a virtuous woman who consistently prioritised the welfare of her children above her personal comfort.

“I will miss my mother so much. She was an epitome of good character and very lively. She worked tirelessly to ensure that we succeeded in life,” he said.

“She would even sacrifice her personal belongings just to make sure we were well taken care of. I am, however, happy that she lived a fulfilled life,” he added.

An emotional moment was witnessed at the graveside as family members and sympathisers gathered to bid their final farewell to the beloved matriarch before she was laid to rest at the Okebiorun family compound in Igede Ekiti.

Late Madam Lydia Bosede Okebiorun was born in 1916 into the family of the late Chief Ogunsua. She was married to the late Mr. Simeon Ojo Okebiorun. Despite facing several challenges during childbirth, she remained steadfast in her faith and devotion to God.

She passed on at the remarkable age of 110, leaving behind a legacy of faith, resilience and dedication to family and community.
