A viral video warning of attacks on higher institutions in Ekiti State has been declared false by the police, who have reassured the public of their safety.

A circulating video claiming that Ekiti State University and Bamidele Olumiluwa University of Education Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BUOESTI), are targeted by bandits has sparked widespread concern across Ekiti State. However, the Ekiti State Police Command has clarified that the footage and accompanying rumours are fabricated, generated through Artificial Intelligence (AI) with the intention to create panic.

Following a thorough investigation, the police confirmed that no credible threat exists against any part of the state. In response to the situation, Commissioner of Police Joseph Eribo has deployed additional security personnel to key locations, including border towns, educational institutions, public and private infrastructure, places of worship, and known black spots to bolster safety.

CP Eribo urged residents to remain calm, continue with their daily activities, and ignore the false information circulating on social media. He emphasized the Command's commitment to maintaining maximum security and called on the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies.

The police have also encouraged citizens to promptly report any suspicious activities or individuals by contacting the nearest police station or the emergency hotline numbers 08062335577 and 09064050086.

The Ekiti State Police Command continues to monitor the situation closely and assures the public of their dedication to protecting lives and property within the state.
