2027: Oluyede Leads PDP Supporters Into Tinubu Re-election Campaign in Ekiti

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the June 20, 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State, Dr. Wole Oluyede, has commenced the mobilisation of his political structure for the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Oluyede, who is also the Convener of the Oluyede Progressive Alliance for Renewed Hope Agenda (OPARHA), said members of the group would embark on grassroots mobilisation across the 16 local government areas and 177 wards of the state, including door-to-door campaigns to canvass support for Tinubu.

Speaking at a mobilisation rally organised by the group, Oluyede said the initiative was aimed at mobilising support for the President across party lines, adding that his supporters would remain committed to the campaign through to election day.

Oluyede said, “I want to thank the PDP for agreeing with me that we are going to support the President. My duty is to ensure that we support him in all the local governments.”

He added, “We are going to work hard to make sure that we deliver 90 per cent for him. These people are already committed. They are going to go door-to-door in all the 16 local governments to canvass for the President and, on election day, they will stand by him.”

The PDP chieftain, who emerged as the runner-up in the June 20 governorship election, also appealed to Tinubu to reciprocate the support by paying greater attention to the development needs of Ekiti State.

Oluyede said the mobilisation was intended to demonstrate that political differences should not prevent stakeholders from supporting programmes and initiatives considered beneficial to the state. He also thanked Governor Biodun Oyebanji for what he described as his spirit of comradeship and commitment to peace.

According to Oluyede, “Even during that election, all Governor BAO was doing was for peace to reign. The President has promised to stand with us and that the development of Ekiti is paramount to the Preside

nt.”

Also Speaking a Chieftain of the PDP Elder Makanjuola Ogundipe declared that Ekiti people are happy with Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji maintianing that the support garnered so far was because of the good heart of the governor.

" We are with the Governor and we stand with President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. We will work together to see that victory is ours in Jesus name". He therefore called on Ekiti people to continue to support the development process in Ekiti noting that the unity of the people will speak through their votes.

Earlier, members of the movement had converged at Ajilosun and proceeded on a solidarity walk to the Fajuyi Pavilion amid songs and dancing.

Speaking at the event, Governor Biodun Oyebanji welcomed Oluyede’s decision to mobilise his supporters for Tinubu, describing the development as a demonstration of commitment to peace, unity and the development of Ekiti State.

Oyebanji urged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who support Tinubu to work with members of the Oluyede-led structure at the ward and local government levels.

The governor said, “Everything you are doing, we are happy with you and God will continue to move you forward. We will support our governor to ensure that Ekiti State will record 90 per cent of the votes coming for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

Oyebanji said the development showed that political differences could be set aside in pursuit of broader interests, noting that Ekiti people were happy that members of different political parties could come together in support of Tinubu’s re-election.

He said, “What is happening today is the yearning of our founding fathers in Ekiti. They desired unity; therefore, no policy and no politics will separate us.”

The governor recalled the struggle for the creation of Ekiti State, saying the founding fathers envisaged a united state where political, religious and other differences would not undermine the collective interest of the people.

Oyebanji said, “I am grateful for your generosity of spirit. I am grateful for your love for Ekiti. I am grateful for your commitment to peace and I am grateful because I know your capacity.”

He also commended the peaceful conduct of the June 20 governorship election, saying, “We had an election in Ekiti State and there was no violence. Nobody was killed. I give God all the glory.”

Oyebanji, who noted that Ekiti would mark its 30th anniversary in two days, said the emerging political collaboration reflected the ideals behind the creation of the state.

The governor also expressed support for Tinubu’s re-election, citing federal projects and other interventions which he said had contributed to the development of Ekiti State.

Oyebanji said, “There has never been a President, living or dead, that has been so good to the people of Ekiti State than this. You voted for me and he is supporting me. He also said that you should vote for him and that he will ensure that Ekiti develops.”

He further urged APC members to cooperate with Oluyede’s supporters and avoid unnecessary rivalry at the grassroots, saying supporters of the President should be able to hold joint meetings and rallies where necessary.

Oyebanji said the collaboration between the two political camps demonstrated that political actors could put aside partisan differences and personal ambitions in pursuit of what he described as the collective interest of Ekiti people.

The governor also charged the emerging alliance to intensify grassroots mobilisation, stressing that its success would depend on the ability of the various supporters to mobilise voters across the wards and communities ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
