NYSC Sanctioned Twenty Five Corps member and honoured 5 others




The National Youth Service Corps NYSC in Ekiti state has sanctioned twenty five of the Batch A 2019 corps members for violating the rules of the scheme.
Eight out of the offenders have their service year extended between three and six months while others were also punished in different ways based on the gravity of their offences.
The NYSC State coordinator, Mrs Emmanuella Okpongete who made these known during the passing out parade ceremony in Ado Ekiti said the disciplinary measures became necessary to check the excesses of the corps members particularly those who did not take the programme serious.
The State Coordinator said, “25 corps members of the 2019 Batch A are under disciplinary measures, eight are to repeat the service year, while others will be given the appropriate punishment for absconding.
According to Okpongete, five other corps members have been honoured for their outstanding performance in Community Development.
They were presented with Certificate of Commendation at the ceremony.
State Government Award recipients included: Kolo Jedidiah, Mary Lawal, Callistus Nwosa, while Daniel Babatunde got the NYSC State Coordinator’s award and Roseline Cgukwuemeka got commendation certificate for taking seriously the SAED programme of NYSC scheme.
However, the state Coordinator announced that one corps members, Miss Omoruyi Oghomwen, died,” during the year in review.
Mrs Okpongete while congratulating the out gone corps members for successful completion of their service year, affirmed that they contributed to the growth of Ekiti in the areas of health, agriculture, education, socio- economic and infrastructural development.
Earlier, Governor Kayode Fayemi whose address was delivered by the commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Michael Awopetu appealed to the corps members to make effective utilization of the skills they acquired so as to become employers of labour rather than job seekers. 
Fayemi said,”Instead of joining of unemployed graduates, I urge you to lay your hands on developmental enterprises like agriculture. “
The Governor pledged that his administration would continue to create employment opportunities for the teaming youths and as well reward the outstanding ones among the corps members.
1441 corps members participated in the 2019 Batch A passing-out parade held at Ekiti Parapo Pavilion, Ado-Ekiti.
