Ekiti 2022: Afuye and his many Dribbles Tales of an inconsistent crusader turned politician

Little is known about the ADP Deputy gubernatorial candidate Mr. Idowu Afuye who today stunned many few weeks to the governorship election in the state jumped ship from the ADP party where he was the deputy governorship aspirant to Erelu Halle Elebute in the election that will come up on June 18th 2022.

He first came into spotlight when he started championing the cause of the southern agenda where  candidates from the two prominent parties in the state were jostling that by rotation it was the turn the of the region to produce a governor in the state. In a twist of event, maybe having studied the political weakness of the southern politicians, Mr. Idowu Afuye turned a crusader overnight patronising all the southern politicians that anything short of the region producing the next governor will not be acceptable.

He had on many occasions gathered what chinua Achebe termed "efulefu" in his book " Arrow of God" that is people of no record to himself set up a campaign and was funded by southern politicians who thought he was doing them a great service. 

Late last year, the self leader of the Southern agenda called for  press conferences, initiated campaigns and walks threatening brimstone and fire to the executive governor of the state Dr. John Kayode Fayemi and the APC state executives that the party will lose the forthcoming guber election if it fails to present its candidate from the southern region. In his words " anybody from South who accepted anything short of Governor is a bastard, in fact Deputy is a big no"

One now wonder what went wrong when he suddenly appeared on the bill board with Erelu Elebute Halle who was contesting for the position of the governor on the platform of the ADP, what's more, Idowu Afuye in a flowing Agbada had Deputy written on his picture. It didn't come to my person as a shock but my shock was how on earth he got Elebute to accept him as her running mate. One thing, that should be considered in our day to day dealings is integrity and I doubt if Afuye has one. If you are going back on your words then people should not take you serious. I knew the romance would not last long because my investigation on Afuye reveals he is just out to where his bread will be buttered, a close source confided in me  that he thought Erelu Bambam had enough goodies he presumably jumped ship when he noticed all that glitters are not gold.

Whoever, advised Elebute to take Afuye with her on the political journey has done her a great disservice and as the Yoruba song will say " ti a ba fe bani rinrin ajo, ka mo eni ti a n barin" it appears madam Halle hardly knows who she took to be a confidant.

Anyways, Afuye has jumped ship today declaring for the candidate of the All progressive Congress and telling the world that the ADP candidate  has no focus or strength to win the election. The question is, did he just woke up to reality or has the honey finished in the pot? Only Afuye can say.

The latest from his mouth was that he is coming or will woo 20,000 supporters for BAO the APC candidate, this is funny because even Afuye himself knows he can't woo 100 people to the party. This defection is another of his numerous antics to butter his bread or possibly get an appointment should the candidate win.

Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji is already a force to be reckoned with in this political race and should he emerge, his victory has no connection with Afuye's defection in fact his coming into the party is more or less a liability.

I won't be surprised if in the next four years our comrade storms the street again for another season of money making venture which he has masters so well.
